Roman Blind or Pencil Pleat Curtain Making Workshop
Regular price £85.00Join us for a hands-on soft furnishings workshop where you can choose to make either a Roman blind sample or a pencil pleat curtain sample. This practical session introduces you to the essential skills needed to create your own bespoke window dressings at home.
Working step-by-step with expert guidance, you’ll learn key measuring, cutting, and construction techniques, giving you the confidence to complete full-size blinds or curtains independently after the workshop.
Choose Your Project
Option 1: Roman Blind Sample
Learn the full process of constructing a Roman blind.
You’ll be taught:
- Cutting fabric and lining
- Calculating and positioning rod pockets
- Hand-sewing techniques including stab stitching
- How to string and assemble a Roman blind
- How to use Roman blind hardware correctly
You will create a small-scale Roman blind sample to take home.
Option 2: Pencil Pleat Curtain Sample
Learn how to sew a classic pencil pleat curtain from scratch.
You’ll be taught:
- How to correctly measure your window
- Calculating fabric amounts, including pattern repeats
- How to cut fabric and lining
- Creating mitred corners
- Assembling curtain layers
- Sewing pencil pleats and attaching 3" header tape
You will create a small-scale pencil pleat curtain sample to take home.
What You Need to Bring
For both projects:
- Sewing machine
(Let us know if you need to borrow one.) - Basic sewing kit (scissors, pins, tape measure, etc.) – spares available
- Thread to match your face fabric and lining
- Metal tape measure
Fabric requirements:

1m face fabric (mid-weight stable woven; upcycled fabric or old curtains are perfect for this sample)

1m lining fabric (light- to mid-weight woven; upcycled acceptable)
Additional items by project:

Roman blind: Roman blind tape (available in the make shop with 10% off)

Curtain sample:
- 1.5m of 3" pencil pleat header tape (available in the Make Shop with 10% off)

We aim to finish each sample within the session, but if you need more time, we’ll ensure you feel confident finishing at home.
