The Role

We are looking for a friendly, knowledgeable Retail Assistant & Fabric Lover to join our growing team. This is a hands-on retail role for someone who truly understands and loves fabric.

You’ll help customers choose the perfect materials for their projects, offer guidance on patterns and notions, and ensure our shop remains an inspiring, beautifully presented space.

We have possibly two positions available, one for a part-time one to two days per week. & One position for Saturday Support. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional, warm customer service

  • Provide expert advice on fabric types, pattern choices, suitability, and sewing advise when needed 

  • Confidently measure and cut fabric with precision

  • Assist customers with fabric and pattern combinations 

  • Operate the till and manage transactions

  • Maintain visual merchandising standards

  • Replenish and organise stock

  • Support workshops, events, and community engagement (if applicable)

About You

  • Strong knowledge of fabrics, textiles, and sewing techniques

  • Genuine passion for dressmaking and creative crafts

  • Previous retail experience preferred but not essential

  • Confident with measuring, cutting, and handling fabric

  • Friendly, approachable, and professional

  • Excellent attention to detail and numeracy skills

  • Comfortable working weekends and during busy seasonal periods

Sewing Teacher – Soft Furnishings (Weekend Workshops)

Location: Make Fabric Boutique - The Box Plymouth 
Commitment: 1–2 weekend days per month (flexible, pre-scheduled)
Pay: Competitive workshop rate (based on experience)

Fabric Boutique is a modern, inspiring fabric shop offering gorgeous dressmaking fabrics, independent patterns, curated kits, beautiful buttons and thoughtful gifts. Alongside our retail space, we host welcoming, skill-building workshops designed to grow confidence and creativity within our maker community.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sewing Teacher to deliver soft furnishings workshops one to two weekend days per month.

You will design and lead engaging classes focused on projects such as cushions, blinds, curtains, other home décor items and bags. Our workshops cater to a range of abilities, from confident beginners to intermediate makers, so the ability to adapt your teaching style is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured, hands-on soft furnishings workshops

  • Guide students through techniques with clarity and patience

  • Prepare class materials lists in collaboration with the shop team

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive learning environment

  • Ensure safe use of sewing machines and equipment

About You

  • Strong experience in soft furnishings and home décor sewing

  • Confident teaching individuals and small groups

  • Friendly, patient, and encouraging teaching style

  • Organised and reliable, with good time management

  • Passionate about sharing skills and inspiring creativity

Previous teaching experience is preferred, but we’re equally interested in experienced makers who are ready to step into teaching with the right support.
