New fabrics in the shop for autumn/winter

Here in the shop, we are beginning to throw cardigans over our summer makes and pouring over the sewing possibilities for autumn/winter. We have had new fabrics coming into Make for some weeks and now is the time to share some of them with you.

Amongst our most popular fabrics is the Terry range from Atelier Brunette. Not only do these offer all of the pleasures of stretchy jersey fabrics but with a fleecy underside - they are perfect for those colder days. A cuddle in a fabric!

We have several colours and patterns in stock. These have been popular with the Linden pattern from Grainline but we also have Deer and Doe's Ondee in store which is a fab cropped sweatshirt. Or you can try this with your favourite jersey dress pattern such as Tilly and the Buttons' Coco or Deer and Doe's Givre.

Deer and Doe's Ondee

We recently posted an article on Face Book about the re emergence of corduroy as the fabric to have.

At Make, we have 5 shades of baby cord to choose from; teal, green, black, paprika and muscovado - perfect for autumn!

Patterns we have in store which are suitable for these fabrics include Grainline "The Moss Skirt" and Tilly and the Buttons "Cleo".

Wool is always popular. There are some heavier weight ones available which are great for structured garments such as your favourite A line skirt or the Moss Skirt above. Add some pockets or buttons and make it unique to you. Try some cushions or Christmas craft projects.

We also have new wools in the shop which have more of a drape and would look great for your favourite tunic dress and a couple of blazer patterns stand out as perfect as they are both casual with a mixture of drape and structure. These are the Deer and Doe "Lupin" and the Grainline "Morris" .

In grey with a tiny pinstripe, why not top stitch using a mustard, orange or shocking pink thread to add an autumnal blaze of colour!

You'll need to be quick as Lizzy has been sewing gorgeous cushions for the cafe in this very fabric!

For our more advanced sewers, why not try the Colette "Anais"? You wouldn't want too thick a wool for this. Try one of our new viscose fabrics to line it with - there is a gorgeous burnt orange one just in. Bring that shade into buttons and threads and you would have a unique and sumptuous jacket to last years.

Looking ahead to the party season, a bit of sparkle is a must. Choose your favourite little top and try one of these. The photos can't do the sparkle justice so do drop in to have a look.

Have a look through our workshop list online as there are plenty of opportunities to use these and other fabrics. If you need advice on matching materials to patterns, please ask in the shop and someone will advise you. Please remember that if you buy fabric for a workshop then there is a 15% discount.

In the meantime, please remember to keep adding your makes on the Makers Forum.

Happy sewing

Sheila
